Yessir, I went and really did it, I got baptized today! I've been saved for about
six years now, but I always used the excuse of my "disliking" the water to not do it.
Anyway, several Sundays ago, Blane Sr. was talking about baptism and gave
the exhortation and invitation to approach him or Philip about doing so.
I finally realized that I just plain had to do it! So, we made plans for the date,
and had the pool filled up ahead of time so it'd be warm. B)
Malachi Hodges got baptized right after me, I'm so glad he did it, and I'll be
prayin' for him!
You know what, it was all kind of a blur, all I remember now was that I answered
some questions, I held my nose, and WOOSH! Actually, I'm very happy that I was
able to serve my Lord in this way, which I've held back on for so long.
To be honest, I was just shaking with nervousness by the time we got up there,
but it's important to profess your faith in Jesus Christ before others!
In fact, listen to this:
"So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge
before my Father who is in heaven, but whoever denies me before men,
I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven."
- Matthew 10:32-33
I find myself, even while I'm writing this post, just praising and thanking God for
allowing me to become part of His family, and for the chance to "acknowledge
Him before men"!
Are you a believer, but have never taken the opportunity to be baptized?
I assure you, it is worth any qualms you may have about it.
In fact, it's a command!
"Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made
him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.'
Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter
and the rest of the apostles, 'Brothers, what shall we do?' And Peter said
to them, 'Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ
for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off,
everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.' And with many other
words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, 'Save yourselves
from this crooked generation.' So those who received his word were baptized,
and there were added that day about three thousand souls."
- Acts 2:36-41
and,
"And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins,
calling on his name.’" - Acts 22:16
Saving the best for last,
"And Jesus came and said to them, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has
been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them
in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to
observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always,
to the end of the age.'" - Matthew 28:18-20
EDIT: Here's some pictures!
Way to go Nate! I just posted all the pics on the Churches blog BTW.
ReplyDeleteI was listening to Alistair Begg the other day and he said "you don't have to be baptized to be a Christian, but you must be baptized to be an obedient Christian."
So true.
It's such a great testimony and illustration of resurrection and new life.
